What is Sports Massage?
Anyone can benefit from Sports / Deep Tissue Massage, which is a deeper, more intense type of treatment based on elements of Swedish massage. Regular treatment can help with management of pain and tension associated with occupation and lifestyle. For sports people it helps improve endurance, prevent injuries and enhance performance.
The main purpose of sports massage therapy is to help ease stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity.
Sports massage is a deeper, more intense type of massage based on the various elements of Swedish massage. Our therapists at Purus Active Health bring together a combination of techniques, knowledge and advice during a treatment.
Massage and well-being
You do not need to be a sports person to benefit from sports massage. Regular treatments can help with the management of stress, pain and tension associated with occupation and lifestyle, as well as improving well-being, circulation and sleep patterns.
Massage and sporting performance
For active people, sports massage can be used to enhance performance as it increases the range of motion and muscle flexibility resulting in improved power and endurance. The techniques used also enhance the body’s own recovery process, reducing muscle spasms and metabolic build-up that occur with exercise, preventing injury and improving the ability to return to training and competition.
Massage and injury
Soft tissue techniques used by sports massage therapists are effective in the management of minor, acute and chronic soft tissue injuries such as sprains, strains and repetitive stress. Sports massage can assist in speeding up the recovery time of an injury and reduce spasm, swelling and discomfort, promoting the formation of repair tissue.
Your massage appointment
For your first appointment, we will require an hour, due to the initial consultation, where we will discuss your injury concerns, take a brief medical history and discuss lifestyle. The treatment will then be tailored to your needs. Following the session your therapist will make recommendations for any further treatment required.
Purus have two locations. If you are based in the City, it is advised to book at our Monument clinic based at Athlete Lab. If more central, book at our Covent Garden clinic.
